The bright honey/topaz color shows sparkling bronze core features impeccable purity; the early aromas include gentle grain, toasted honey-wheat bread, and tobacco leaf with aeration, the aroma quickly transforms into a pedal-to-the-metal Bourbon bouquet as evolved scents of ripe banana and charcoal tweak the olfactory sense in the middle stage whiffs -- fragrances of lanolin, almond butter, melon, and oil accent the toastiness beautifully -- it's a somewhat restrained, or better, understated aroma but I sense lots of power lying just beneath the surface; my, my, my, what have we here -- in the mouth, this oily, toasty beauty seduces the taste buds at palate entry with dry flavors of cereal grain and mild oak resin -- the mid-palate tastes explode on the tongue in unabashedly sweet and oily flavors of black raisins, grape- fruit, charred oak, and candied almonds; the finish is long, corny sweet, moderately fiery, and lasciviously oily; easily one of the most tactile yet assertive and expressive Bourbons I've tasted in the last two years; fasten your seat belts.

A bit oaky and nutty. Quite pleasing. | | Taste: | A fine rye bourbon. The taste is well crafted and complex. Something to occupy the evening with ease. | | Finish: | No need for a long dissertation here. This is really good stuff. The finish is classic caramel and oak and it is refined. | | Overall: | Once again...no need for words! This is high quality bourbon and should be a staple in every good enthusiasts cabinent. ENOUGH SAID.
BUY IT AND ENJOY IT....it was made well and deserves a few ice cubes often. |

Not sure why, but this seems to hit higher notes that aren't terribly intense. They are, however, pleasing. After it's been sitting for a while, a vanilla caramel nose comes to the front. | | Taste: | First impression is corn followed by some peppery, nuttiness and oak. relatively light mouth feel with a bit of caramel cloying over the top front of the tongue. It doesn't last long, but does seem to create an interesting imbalance. That is, I'm not repulsed, but rather intrigued. The caramel without equal parts sweetness. Very interesting. | | Finish: | For me the finish is the real treat here. It lasts much longer than I would have thought. All the corn, oak, peppery nuttiness, vanilla and caramel resolves very slowly and pleasantly. | | Overall: | I like this. It wouldn't be my regular pour, but it is a nice addition with it's own complexity and distinctiveness. |

Nearing the end of the bottle. Has been open for a couple months. | | Nose: | Quite floral, crisp, sweet minty... like a hyacinth or a narcissus... rainier cherry... pipe tobacco, butterscotch. | | Taste: | Surprisingly delicate and sweet. Maintains the floral qualities, but vanilla and corn are also present. There's some spice in there... but it's way in the background at first... then creeps up on you. This is one of the few whiskies that almost feels cold on the tongue at first... almost refreshing... then you feel the burn at the back of your mouth. | | Finish: | The finish is nice and drawn out. and it's where the wood starts to really show up... there's a lingering vanilla sweetness throughout the finish as well... which is somewhat unique to me. | | Overall: | Very complex stuff. A lot of the qualities are subtle... but they are certainly there. It changes in the glass... and as you drink it. Really a pleasure to sip. This is one to keep on hand in quantity. Keeps you interested. |

Vanilla custard and allspice, leathery, with a sandy-sweet top-note. Indian Pudding. A rare bouquet of flowers and leafy greens, definitive spearmint note, slight eucalyptus, almost herbal, along with an undertone of dry spice, light grain, and hay. Glove leather. Sweet and luxurious pipe tobacco reminiscent of old Dunhill Royal Yacht from the 1970's. | | Taste: | Caramel and toffee, vanilla and mocha, milk chocolate, almond paste, a mellow citrus note from the center (mid-range) and it just keeps going... this is the Best of ER10. | | Finish: | Medium burn, silky, bright, brown sugar to the hilt juxtaposed by gourmet caramel and butterscotch notes. | | Overall: | This was rated upon opening a new bottle, poured into three glasses: A 1oz shot glass (JD), a Reidel Cognac XO, Reidel Vinum Tulip, and a Glencairn. In that order, gravitating more towards the Glencairn for a broad profile and mid-tones, then ending with the Cognac XO which brought out more flowers and violets and vanilla at the very end. BB |

Exceedingly ripe fruit along with a citrus edge and big-time complexity. Good wood, good rye, and lots of brown sugar. | | Taste: | It's bigger on taste than it is in the nose. Brown sugar, spice, chocolate, mocha, golden vanilla custard, caramel, wet leather, with a light dusting of cinnamon. Ripe fruit and caramel prevails... tobacco at the very bottom of the glass. I'm tasting this in a Glencairn which seems to bring out everything evenly, better than any other. | | Finish: | Tingles the front upper lip. A semi-dry and spicy finish lingers into 90 seconds with soft tingling heat thereafter. | | Overall: | One good pick from the boys on L&K. Thanks guys! A-1 Bourbon. Butterscotch, and oak in the midsection. Some small wiff of malt, and tobacco linger deep in the mix. A pleasently complex nose that achieves a nice balance.
Classic amber in the glass with good slow legs and viscosity that you would expect from a ten year old. | | Taste: | Not as complex as the nose, but still presents itself sweetly complex with good balance. Corn; malt, and oak out front in good harmony. Spices, tobacco, and char play fill cords just behind the main trio. All nicely balanced in the mix. | | Finish: | Natural reverb and delay with slow decay. Nothing digital here. Semi-drying as the finish fades. Just the least tad tannic, but not a big deal. It seems that I have become more sensitive to barrel tannins lately. | | Overall: | I must admit that I have liked every expression of Eagle Rare that I have ever sampled. I rave about the 17 year old Eagle Rare ultra-small batch bottling in Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection. Every sip brings me closer to heaven. Until recently I had not had pleasure to sample the now discontinued, but once standard 10 year old Eagle Rare 101 proof. A very rare treat indeed that I liked even better than the much more expensive single barrel. A pity that expression is now history, but a rich and tasty history to be remembered.

Still rather young, but fresh and vibrant. Damn, this is good after being opened for two months, much better than when I first opened it. It has to open... | | Finish: | Smooth as silk with a touch of dryness. Medium length. It sparks all over the palette. | | Overall: | I'm hooked. Initially I hated this bourbon with a vengeance. Now after leaving air in the bottle for approximately eight to twelve weeks after opening - I love it. Go figure... during the time I sampled this bottle I was really into spring wheaters and it came across offensive. Not now... this is flowing into big-time character and complexity and changing-up in the glass as I write. Riedel Vinum Tulip is suggested. It's r-e-a-l good with age. BB |

Thinner feeling mouth feel. This bourbon has a solid body but is not viscous as it covers your mouth. No feeling of sticking to your teeth or the roof of your mouth. With melting ice I get a sense of a little more biting rye flavor. Sadly that fades into a slightly bitter finish. | | Overall: | For the modest price at Kenwood a person can get better bourbon. I think that this is not noticeably better than distillery companion Buffalo Trace which can be had at Kenwood for $15. A good drink, but not outstanding: similar to my 2.993 law school GPA. |

It reminded me of a cheaper, lesser aged whiskey. There were hints of maple syrup, roses, honey, vanilla, and ginger.
While the nose was not altogether unpleasant, I felt like I was being teased with the promise of something more, but a something I would never actually receive. | | Taste: | The entry was soft and light with some mild burn around the edges. I did not find it to be very sweet, but more bitter with a citric acidity. I was mainly overwhelmed by tannins and some nuttiness. I was reminded of drinking grapefruit juice. For me, the flavor just fell flat on its face. | | Finish: | The finish was almost medium in length. It was here that I detected some vanilla along with some nuttiness, but mainly a drying bitterness. There was some burn (as opposed to warmth) in the chest. | | Overall: | I was not impressed and extremely disappointed with this selection. It would not have been one that I would have chosen. I couldn't help but think that I was tasting some cheaper bourbon. If this weren't a single barrel, I would probably never buy another bottle again. I would like to hope that other barrels have produced better stuff. So for now I will sit and cherish my bottle of ER 10 year 101 (which I think is great) and pray that they start making it again. |

There is an earthy, organic aroma that is reminiscent of peacan shells and dry oak. Also one gets hints of dried fruit (dates?), toasted bread, char, leather, rye, and nuts. The nose is not delicate, but neither is it really assertive. | | Taste: | The taste is sweeter than the nose promised and it is rich across the whole mouth with a bit of spice that complements the sweetness very well. | | Finish: | There is an alcohol burn deep in the throat that is somewhat surprising. The finish is very nice, except for the exiting alcohol, with the sweet spicy bourbon flavors hanging around in a most pleasant way. | | Overall: | Overall an excellent bourbon, but one that in my judgement falls short of greatness. There is an alcohol edge in the finish of this barrel that makes an unwanted appearance. I suspect that another bottle from a different barrel would be superior. |

Hold your hand over the glass for a few seconds and then take a second whiff, more compelxity comes out as the toasty bourbon scent reached your olfactory area. | | Taste: | Your toungue finds itself in a nice warm gentelman's oak walled bar. You will want to hold it there for quite a while since there is no burning sensation. The full bouquet of vanilla and caramel, with some oakiness does not fade away. | | Finish: | As with all products from this distillery the finish does not dissapoint, it is very long lasting and the aftertaste is as good as what was on the palate. No burn, just a nice warmth that will rise up the chimney. Take your time drinking this, you want to enjoy each phase. | | Overall: | $21 for this bourbon ! Unbelievable value ! I will keep this one around to impress my friends that think you have to pay $30 or more for a really good bourbon.

What suprises me is the lack of vanilla or caramel. | | Taste: | Peaches and spice - a whole spice rack full with nutmeg and cinnamon and allspice followed by vanilla and chocolate leading into the fishes. There is no alcohol burn with this drink, just a little warmth that seems to bring out more flavor. | | Finish: | WOW! This finish is strong and long lasting. It has sweet vanilla and spice at first with a slow transformation to an oaky dryness that is fantastic. | | Overall: | I have always liked the Eagle Rare 17 yo but this particular bottle of single barrel is out of this world. Unfortunately I do not have the barrel information since it is not listed on the bottle. It is definitely superior to the other Eagle Rare Single Barrel I have tried before. That is the problem with single barrel products - every barrel is going to be a little, or sometimes, greatly different. |
